2012 UK Conference

The 2012 AHFAP UK Conference was held on Monday 19 November at the Dulwich Picture Gallery.

Day 1, MONDAY 19th November
Conference bookings for Day 1 should be made via the Membership Secretary, Steve Cole. Membership fees and conference booking payments can be combined, please indicate if you require an invoice.

Conference Programme

9.15 am – Registration and coffee
10.00 am – Welcome, introduction and house-keeping
10.10 am – Dulwich Picture Gallery
10.20 am – Annette King from the Tate Gallery will speak on a project to x-ray some of the gallery’s paintings by Picasso
10.50 am – James Davis from Google talks about Google Art
11.20 am – Alan Newman of the National Gallery of Art Washington DC will talk about their free image download service
11.50 am – ‘Terry Dennett, 60 years in photography’, a presentation and short video

12.30 pm – Lunch

2.00 pm – James Stevenson talks about the life and work of photographer Claude Cahun
2.45 pm – Sophie Gordon from the Royal Collection will speak on the collection’s extensive photographic archive
3. 30 pm – Dave Baker, an urban guerrilla photographer, will speak about his recent visit to Chernobyl

4.20 pm – Association Annual General Meeting

There will also be a Poster display to enable members to publicise their work. Members are invited to submit proposals, in pdf form to any member of the Committee. Printing will be arranged by the association

Day 2, TUESDAY 20th November
All the activities for today are set in or around Lincoln’s Inn Fields, Holborn, London, WC2.

Lincoln’s Inn
Lincoln’s Inn is one of the four Inns of Court. The Inns of Court prepare students for call to the Bar and aid their progress to professional competence as barristers. The tour will take us through some of the principal buildings where we will see some of the art treasures contained within the court.

Lunch
Lunch will be at The Ship Tavern situated in Gate Street which is just off Lincoln’s Inn fields. The Ship Tavern was established in 1549 and has been part of Holborn’s social scene for over 500 years.

Sir John Soane Museum
The Museum occupies three houses on the North side of Lincoln’s Inn and houses Soanes collection of antiquities. Soane was an architect who designed many buildings of which these are some of his better known works:- The Dulwich Picture Gallery and The Bank of England.

There is a charge of approximately £10 per head for the day’s entry fees, lunch is at delegates own expense.

Exact times and meeting locations will be announced later.
10.30 visit to Lincoln’s Inn. Tour limited to 30 people, smart casual clothing must be worn, no photography or cameras allowed.
